"The plane crashed in Warsaw", Pacolli recounts how he escaped death
Behgjet Pacolli

The well-known businessman Behgjet Pacolli spoke in "Opinion" about his personal life and how he built all his wealth.

He stopped at a moment when he had escaped death. Pacolli says that in 1979, a plane delay in Washington prevented him from flying to Warsaw. And this actually saved his life, since that plane crashed, killing all the passengers on it.

Behgjet Pacolli: In March of 79 I traveled from Mexico to Washington and had to take a plane to Warsaw. And the plane is delayed so much that I can't catch it and I remember then I had some plastic shoes and my feet sweated so much that I saw when that gate was closed. I insisted to a policeman for a ride because I had an important meeting. The Americans are good at this, I will never insist on this again. And the next day I wake up and I see the newspaper that I leave the newspapers under the door and I see "Aircrash over Warsaw". I read it and see that it is the plane that went from Washington.

- That you should have been inside?

Behgjet Pacolli: That it should have been me.

- No passengers escaped, right?

Behgjet Pacolli: I have called, no one has escaped. I call Varimex I remember well and the secretary says excuse me who are you, are you his brother? You died yesterday, he says, we were waiting for you at the airport and the plane crashed. Sorry to tell you, I have escaped. How did you get it?! Do you give me the lady on the phone, when I called her and she did not believe.

It's almost unbelievable, but he says there's a second time he's escaped death. An accident in 1980 with a car caused him serious injuries, so much so that the doctors at the hospital where he was sent considered him dead.

But it was a pad where Pacolli had written his contact numbers that did the "miracle".

-At this time, when you had started working in business in Switzerland, you suffered a very serious accident.

Behgjet Pacolli: In 1980 in Ljubljana, it was the time when Tito was in the same hospital and was spending the last days of his life. I crashed in front of Ljubljana and was unconscious for 28 days.

-28 days without consciousness?! And then you stayed dressed for a long time?

Behgjet Pacolli: I was paralyzed because the photos today show that I have a construction, these holes here are... I kept a metal construction to hold me...

- Was the neck able to hold the weight of the head? Is it true that at the first moment of the accident they thought you were dead?

Behgjet Pacolli: They thought I was going to die, and the man who pulled me from that hat where we keep the dead, a doctor who was the head of the hospital whose director came only 17 minutes after I was taken to the morgue. He comes and says where is this patient? When they take off my bloody jacket, my phone number pad rings. That girl opens the block and her eyes fall on Mahmut Bakalli.

- Who was a member of the Political Bureau of Yugoslavia...

Behgjet Pacolli:Known. She calls Bakalli and it is very interesting that she called this exact number, because there were several numbers there. He calls the number of the house, Mahmuti is notified directly there and he says how is it possible. She tells him that Behgjet is here and is in a difficult situation. Bakalli calls his counterpart, he the director of the hospital and the latter the heart doctor. This one comes right there and the first moment they take off the white sheet and I start bleeding from the mouth. He does a bypass in the most primitive way, with a pump he cuts the vein and makes it possible for the blood to go to the brain. Because the heart and other organs here have been blocked. There everything starts to work well, but they didn't know that I was paralyzed. After 4 months they realized I couldn't move and they put that brace on me.
