Kosovo's prime minister complained of bias against his country by the United States and the European Union and tolerance of what he called Serbia's authoritarian regime.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Kurti says that his cabinet has a different opinion. "We insist that being nice to an autocrat does not make him behave better. On the contrary", said the Prime Minister of Kosovo.

The US and EU envoys for the Kosovo-Serbia talks, Gabriel Escobar and Miroslav Lajçak, respectively, "come to us with requests, with the requests of the other party", said Kurti in an interview with the Associated Press.

AP recalls that recently "ethnic Serbs clashed with Kosovo police and then with the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping force, leaving 30 soldiers and over 50 Serbs injured and provoking fears of renewed bloody conflicts in region".

"Western powers should not satisfy Belgrade, the root problem of violence in the Western Balkans", says Kurti.

The agency also interviewed Lars-Gunnar Îgemark, the outgoing head of the EU Rule of Law Mission, known as EULEX. He says that during last week's violent confrontation "there were very serious injuries from some KFOR soldiers".

"There was violence of the worst kind. Everyone says that we are lucky that there were no victims", he added. After that, NATO said it would send 700 additional troops to northern Kosovo.

Wigemark said that the time would come when the EULEX civilian police, which no longer has executive powers, but only "monitoring and guiding the Kosovo police", will not be needed in Kosovo. "But the conditions are not yet there for that," he said. The European diplomat did not exclude that NATO may decide to bring "thousands of military troops" to Kosovo.

"If the situation becomes more and more volatile, if it starts to escalate again, of course, that's an option," he said.
