The United States will send 500 additional troops to Washington, D.C., after a shooting attack on two National Guard members.
This was stated by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during a visit to the Dominican Republic.
"This will only strengthen our resolve to ensure that we make Washington safe and beautiful," said Hegseth, who announced the troop increase, which will bring the total number of National Guard personnel in the capital to over 2,500.
A little earlier, foreign media reported that they died in hospital, while as the BBC currently writes, the two soldiers are in critical health condition.
US President Donald Trump was at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, when the incident occurred.
He reacted in shock on his social network, Truth, where he wrote:
"The person who shot the two National Guard members, who are in critical condition, is also seriously injured, but regardless, he will pay a very high price! May God bless our National Guard, as well as all the Armed Forces and police!"
