Attack at Berlin Pride Parade, car drives into crowd: 1 dead and 16 injured

A woman has died and 16 other people have been injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd during a Pride Parade event in Berlin, according to German authorities.

The incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. local time, in the Tiergarten park, near the Brandenburg Gate, where participants and visitors to the event had gathered.

Police have identified a suspect who, according to preliminary investigations, has links to Islamism. However, no arrests have been made so far.

A large-scale search operation has been launched in the German capital. Authorities have released a photo of the suspect and have urged citizens to report any information that could help locate him.

A white vehicle suspected of being used in the attack was also found inside the security perimeter. Investigators are working to determine the motives and circumstances of the incident.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the attack, calling it a "horrible act" and promised that authorities would conduct a full investigation into the incident.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner also reacted to the incident, stating that it was “an attack on our free and open society.” Investigations are ongoing, while police remain on high alert in the area where the attack occurred.
