The competition for one of the most important energy projects in Kosovo has entered a new phase. Two companies from the United States of America have submitted bids for the design and construction of the battery system for energy storage.

The news was announced by the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, who announced that the bid evaluation process will now begin. The battery system will have a capacity of 340 MWh and is planned to be built in two locations – Istog and Ferizaj.

According to Minister Rizvanolli, the aim is for the works to be completed next year. "We are approaching the realization of one of the largest investments in the energy sector in recent decades," declared Rizvanolli.

The project is part of the $236.7 million Compact Program, which is funded through cooperation between the United States of America, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and the Government of Kosovo.

The investment aims to contribute to increasing Kosovo's energy security, through the creation of capacities for energy storage and more flexible management of the energy system.

Rizvanolli thanked the American partners, MCC and the MCA-Kosovo team for their support in the implementation of the project. “This project is an important step towards strengthening Kosovo's energy security,” said the minister.

Now, the offers submitted by the two American companies are expected to undergo an evaluation process, after which the company that will be charged with implementing the project will be determined.
