Protected areas, in which cases it will be built

After the approval of the changes in the law "On protected areas", the Ministry of Tourism and Environment has drawn up draft decisions for 9 protected landscapes, determining the activities that are allowed or not to be developed within these territories, which have high natural values.

In each of the documents issued for public consultation, it is determined that the goal is to preserve and protect the landscape values ​​of the protected environmental area and the important components of biodiversity and nature in them.

However, already within these areas, activities such as construction, sewage treatment in farms, construction of floating canals, highways, urban areas, as well as similar activities can be carried out, in cases where the subject is provided with a permit from the Council National Territory.

Under the old law, these activities were forbidden to take place within protected areas due to the irreversible damage they cause to the environment. The changes to the law were proposed by 12 deputies of the Socialist Party, but still the final version approved in February of this year took into consideration the proposals made by the government.

It was approved amid protests by civil society organizations, which opposed the changes from the moment they were proposed, precisely because they were paving the way for construction.

The draft decisions of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment have been drawn up for the protected landscapes: Pishë Poro - Nartë, Bredhi i Drenova - Sinicë, Buna River - Velipojë, Lake Pogradec, Rrushkull, Kuturman - Qafë Bushi, Krastë - Verjon and Guri i Nikës - Valamare. . Meanwhile, the environmental organizations and the deputies of the Democratic Party have declared that they will send the case to the Constitutional Court, to request the repeal of the law.
