Albania imports 36 percent of the wheat from Serbia and the Serbian President's statement, which said Serbia would allow its export to our country is expected to reflect positively on lowering prices, although they are difficult to get to pre-war levels.
The price of flour captured the peaks after Vucic's statement that blocked wheat and flour exports, ranging from 52 lek per kilogram to over 100 kilograms. This followed the increase in the price of bread by 25 percent and all bakery products.
However, prices are not expected to return to pre-war levels, due to the Ukrainian blockade of wheat, flour, oil and other food products. This is one reason, while the other reason relates to the oligopol trajectory of the market.
A Competition Authority investigation last year of the four largest wheat and flour importing companies in our country concluded that companies had agreed to simultaneous price increases.
As well as oil, they said price growth in international markets had become the cause of the increase. But although it found violations, the Competition Authority voted 3-2 against fining companies, which under the law would have to pay over 30 percent of annual profits.
