Bankers fined for evasion, Rama: Oil exports dropped that we revised deals

Prime Minister Edi Rama says his government has revised agreements on oil concessions in the country and therefore today, according to him, there are fewer exports of 'black gold' abroad.

"Oil in Albania has been in the hands of the rulers. It became a criminal privatization of our wealth. The government responds to resources and today we have on the ground the 2 largest companies in the world that have no ties to the powers and we have one of the discoveries for important not only for Albania a large amount of gas. We've reviewed all the deals. Today is a very profitable agreement for the Albanian state. The third export of our oil has dropped drastically because there has been a very difficult era of oil investment. We have planted healthily in the gas and oil sectors," Rama added.

Falling exports, the Prime Minister is billing the revision of the agreements, but the reason may be another for the decline in exports; tax evasion. Bankers Petroleum, the country's largest oil extraction company, was fined 100ml euros in 2019 for failing to disclose the amount of oil it exported from Albania.

Meanwhile, regarding the allocation of fuel sale prices, the Prime Minister said:

"In the conditions of capitalism control over appetite for profit and the creation of balance is more difficult than in the conditions of a dictatorship. It is not discussed that they are not happy, so they are in that camp not to allow private interests to censor that of the public. Our role is not to put the border on the thana. We told you you couldn't set the prices you want."
