Taking your pension in the bank? What are the new rules for opening an account?

At the beginning of April this year, pensioners, people on economic assistance, disabled people and orphans will be able to open a bank account with a second-tier bank without any fees.

This account became functional only in the local currency (lek), and it would also serve to receive the pension or economic assistance that the beneficiary categories receive. And they will be able to make free transfers within the country.

But at the beginning of this month, pensioners who wish to receive their pension through the bank have two ways to make their request at no additional cost.

The application can be made through the e-Albania portal, where the citizen applying must upload the bank account data form issued by the bank.

While the second way is in the branch of the bank where the pensioners wish to receive the pension, which has the responsibilities for sending the request according to the procedure defined for actions through the portal.

The Social Insurance Institute has reached cooperation agreements with 9 commercial banks in the country where pensioners can transfer their pension and benefit from accounts with zero or reduced commissions.

On the other hand, for those pensioners who have already chosen to receive their pension through the banking system, they will have to appear in the respective bank where they have an account in March and September of each year and confirm the continuity of payments by signing a statement .

The beneficiary can complete and deposit the confirmation statement in a 6-month period at the bank counter and the other 6-month period can be done through the e-Albania portal.
