What are the cities most affected by earthquakes in Albania?

The Institute of Geosciences, during a conference held yesterday, highlighted the conclusions of the study. Investments have been stopped in the addition of 20 new stations for monitoring seismic oscillations.

"Since the 2019 earthquake, with the help of the National Civil Protection Agency and UNDP, there have been updates of the current stations, and the addition of 10 new stations, increasing the performance of the network, but also increasing the coverage of the Albanian seismic network. There are 10 new and 10 improved stations that are part of the basic network of the Albanian Seismological Institute.

But what are the areas where the new seismic stations are located?

"The 10 new stations have started from the north, Razma, to Përmet. We have Razem, Burrel. We have an addition in Durrës, above the area of Librazhd, we have one in Blesh which is a lady with a significant seismicity, we have one in Pogradec and another one in Përmet. And two in Vlora."

According to the head of the Department of Seismology, Anila Xhahysa, referring to the study by the Institute of Geosciences, the South of Albania is the most affected by seismic vibrations.

"The south is more affected, whether the catalog by the spread of seismicity, by the presence of fractures, by oscillations measured by the GPS system. Not only the acceleration of the land is for the risk in the area, but there are two very important parameters, it is the category of the land if we are on the rock, and the quality of the buildings is important."
