Saranda Bypass, ARRSH procures the study-design for the new road

Another infrastructural work is expected to be added in the South of the country and this time it is about a Bypass in Saranda as a way to solve the traffic that is created especially during the tourist season. The Albanian Road Authority announced the opening of the procurement procedure for the design study this Monday with a limit fund of 30 million ALL. According to the terms of reference that accompany the procedure, the new bypass will avoid crossing the Sixth Neck.

"From time to time inspections of the main junctions of the city's entrance in peak periods, especially in the summer season, it has been found that almost all the main junctions of the city have significant traffic difficulties. From the above, we think that the solution to this type of blockage is the creation of a new entry point to the city of Saranda. It is thought that this new entrance can be located in the northern part of the city and connect directly with the road axis [SH8] Sarandë - Himare. This new entrance would make it possible to avoid the junction of the Sixth Neck, already overloaded with traffic. Below is a general plan for the anticipated/proposed interventions, however it is the designer's duty to study in detail, give suggestions and find the most suitable alternative to guarantee the solution of the problems related to the city's congested traffic of Saranda" the document states.

According to ARRSH, the planned intervention includes the road segment that should start at the current entrance of the city of Saranda, near the roundabout of Qafë Gjaštë and should end in connection with the national road [SH8] Sarandë - Himarë. The endpoints of the project must be determined in coordination with the "Coastal Road" project, the possibility of connection with the Kardhiq - Delvina - Sarandë road, in cooperation with the Municipality of Sarandë and the ARRSH.

"This segment is expected to have a total length of approximately 3.5 km, including road segments with urban or inter-urban characteristics, a tunnel with a length of approximately 800~900 ml, as well as the design of junctions along this road axis. The designer in close cooperation with the Albanian Road Authority will propose and implement a Category C2 road segment (where urban elements are designed in urban areas), depending on the need and the physical and legal conditions of the properties affected by the project footprint . The widths of the road will be realized according to the standards in force in order to meet all the necessary conditions for circulation and comfortable access," the documents state.
