The water situation has favored the production of electricity in the country, as the data show that during the first 3 months of this year, about 4.5 million mWh of energy were generated. This figure is even higher than the 4th month of last year, where around 3.5 million mWh of energy was generated. But, unlike last year, production was dominated by private and concessionary hydropower plants with 51.2% of total energy, while Drin Cascade hydropower plants generated 48.8% of energy.
At the same time, the production of energy from photovoltaic power stations has continued, although the amount generated is very low in relation to the energy produced from hydro sources. For the period January - March, these plants produced 22,887 mWh of energy.
Meanwhile, total energy consumption, including all categories of consumers, for the 3-month period reached about 2.2 million mWh of energy. The level of losses in the distribution network for the 3-month period was recorded at 19.3%, marking a slight improvement compared to the same period last year. As for the level of receipts, it continues to remain stable, with about 96% of the bills generated by the Electricity Distribution Operator during the period January-March 2024.
