The first weekend of June will mark extremely high temperatures for the start of the summer season.

Meteorologist Tanja Porja clarified that the thermometer will mark up to 36-37 degrees Celsius.

The districts of Elbasan, Berat and Gjirokastër will be the hottest, due to the sub-Saharan air masses coming from the deserts of Chad, while the weather will be cooler in Tirana and Shkodër.

"From today, after about two hours, we expect a maximum of 35°C. The same maximum will be maintained during Saturday afternoon. By Sunday we expect to have 36°C or something higher in some of the counties. I would mention Elbasan, Berat and Gjirokastër, which will be the hottest areas. Shkodra and Tirana remain on the outskirts of this heat, since this heat does not come from the north of Africa, but from the Sahara, i.e. the deserts of Chad towards Southeast Europe. The southern areas, including a good part of the east of the Albanian territory, will record very high temperatures."

Porja explained that due to the way the African air current is moving, the mercury will turn red on the weekend even in cities like Pogradec and Korça, areas which are traditionally cool.

" 36°C is safe for the day on Sunday. The whole south even in the south-eastern areas. Even Pogradeci, Korça and Erseka, which are classically cooler than the rest of the territory, this weekend we expect 30°C to 31°C. Something cooler in Devolli and Cologne, but quite high temperatures also in the southeast due to the origin of the air masses that come from the Eastern Mediterranean and ascend to the southeast of the continent. The north and northeast are cooler, but also Shkodra with temperatures no higher than 32-33 degrees Celsius ."
