In the competition with the candidate of the audiovisual regulator of Great Britain, OFCOM, with a majority of votes, the Chair of the AMA, Armela Krasniqi, has been elected Vice/Chair of the European Platform of Regulatory Entities, EPRA.
At the 59th meeting of EPRA, which is taking place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Krasniqi received the support of the majority of the 52 member authorities of EPRA, present at this meeting.
With 28 votes in favor of Krasniqi, against 21 votes given to the British candidate, Siobhan Walsh, the president of the AMA has been chosen to be one of the vice-presidents of this platform. The president is Mari Vesland, chairwoman of the Norwegian Media Authority (Medietilsynet).
This is the first time that Albania is selected and represented at such high levels on a pan-European platform.
"I am truly honored for the trust that was given to me," said Krasniqi at the moment of the announcement of the voting results. "Albania is a small country, but this has nothing to do with its size. You will see today's vote in my dedication, professional, energy and my full contribution during the exercise of this duty".
EPRA consists of 56 member authorities from 47 European countries: the 27 EU member countries and the United Kingdom; the authorities of the countries that accede to membership in the European Union, of which Albania is also a part, the regulators of the potential candidate countries for the EU and the authorities of the countries of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) with the EU (Armenia, Azerbaijan).
Pursuant to EPRA's Statute, the Executive Board of this Platform consists of the President and 4 vice-presidents and acts as the strategic body that directs EPRA. Among other things, this Board represents the Platform at international events, proposes a 3-year strategy, draws up annual work programs and related activities, and makes decisions regarding EPRA's operation.
With the participation of senior leaders of European regulatory bodies, representatives of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the European Audiovisual Observatory, ERGA, the OSCE representative for Media Freedom, the Global Network of Internet Security Regulators, this Assembly is focused on two current, important issues of the audiovisual market:
