The Tirana court has remanded in prison Gazmend Buçpapaj, the perpetrator of the murder of young man Egli Pashollari. 

He was arrested by police a few days ago in Tropoja, where he was hiding in an apartment.

Initially, his defense attorney Sokol Hyseni apologized to the deceased's family on behalf of Buçpapaj. 

He then requested that  Gazmend Buçpapaj be released with lighter security measures.

This is with the claim that he has surrendered to the police and does not pose a flight risk.

During his testimony, the perpetrator claimed that he committed the murder in self-defense. According to him, he found the road blocked and honked his horn, but the victim cursed at him from the car.

He states that they walked for 100 meters and Pashollari, after stopping the car, got out and cursed at him. Afterwards, Buçpapaj explains that they fought and in self-defense he stabbed him.

The incident occurred at around 3:40 PM, on "Kongresi i Lushnjes" street in Tirana.  Egli Pashollari had just gotten out of the car when he was attacked by three people.

During the physical altercation, Gazmend Buçpapa is suspected of stabbing him in the back at least once.

The pastor was given first aid at a bar in the area and was then driven to the hospital in his car by several other people, witnesses at the scene.

However, he could not survive and died on the way to the hospital.

Pashollari is also a former prison guard accused in 2020 of attempting to smuggle alcohol into Emiljano Shullazi's cell. Meanwhile, police are investigating to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident.
