The former mayor of Kukës,  Safet Gjici,  is seeking acquittal at the Constitutional Court.

Gjici requests the reversal of the Special Appeal decision of June 24, 2024 and his acquittal for the criminal offense of "abuse of office" and "passive corruption".

He was sentenced by the Second Instance Court to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the sexual affair within the Kukes Municipality office.

Due to the summary trial, he received a 3-year sentence reduction. 

On May 19, 2025, Safet Gjici was released from prison due to health problems, while he is serving the remaining sentence under "house arrest".

Gjici remained in the cell for 23 months.
