An Albanian man was arrested yesterday afternoon at Tenerife South Airport after trying to use a forged passport from the Czech Republic to board a plane to the United Kingdom, according to a statement issued by the National Police. The arrest was made at the passport control, where the officers spotted the forged document.
The arrested person, of Albanian origin, had traveled by road from Albania to Serbia and then flew to Barcelona, ??finally arriving in Tenerife. He was stopped as he tried to board a flight to Belfast.
Police believe he took advantage of the end of the summer holidays, when airports are busiest with people returning home to try to blend in and avoid detection.
Authorities are investigating further, as the suspect's flight ticket was purchased by another person abroad. Police suspect the involvement of a larger network that facilitates illegal human trafficking and efforts are underway to identify those responsible for orchestrating these activities.
