Work officially began this Wednesday morning to dismantle the Dragostunja bridge in the area called "Arrat e Gurrës", on the national axis Librazhd-Prrenjas, after the structure was severely destroyed by landslides and subsidence.
The bridge suffered fatal damage after a powerful movement of the earth mass, which destabilized the foundations and made any repair intervention impossible. Field specialists confirmed that the displacement of the road body and the cracking of the bearing layers have completely disabled the existing structure, turning it into a potential hazard for traffic and public safety.
The dismantling process is being carried out with heavy equipment and under strict safety measures, due to the instability of the terrain. The area continues to be considered at high geological risk, while ground movements are still reported to be active in some surrounding segments.
The collapse of the bridge in Dragostunja has deepened the traffic crisis on this important connecting artery, temporarily isolating entire communities and diverting traffic to alternative rural roads, which cannot handle the high flow of vehicles.
The authorities are expected to draft a new project for the construction of a new, more sustainable structure adapted to the geological conditions of the area, while residents are demanding transparency regarding deadlines and guarantees for a long-term solution. Meanwhile, in “Arrat e Gurrës” a battle with time and nature continues to restore normality to one of the most problematic segments of the region.
