A new international controversy has been sparked by a proposal from the administration of US President Donald Trump in recent hours.

According to the plan presented in a draft statute for a new international organization also known as the Peace Board, countries that want a permanent seat in it would have to pay at least $1 billion in financial contributions.

According to the project, cited by Bloomberg, each member country would have a term of up to three years if it does not pay $1 billion within the Council's first year of operation.

This three-year mandate can only be renewed with the approval of the organization's president - a role that, according to the draft articles, Trump himself will have.

According to international media, the funding of this new institution, which is initially related to peacemaking and reconstruction in Gaza, may be expanded to other conflict zones.

The very name and content of the card leave room for a broader role beyond the Middle East, foreign media write.

But the move has already sparked strong reactions. Critical analysts point out that the proposal resembles an attempt to create a new international organization, even competing with the UN, with a "ticket" based on financial contributions and a central role for the United States.

Main points of the proposal

Any country seeking permanent membership will have to pay at least $1 billion in funding within the first year.

Without that contribution, the seats would only have three-year terms and this would be subject to presidential approval.

Trump is expected to play a key role in the council's composition and operation, including approving its seals and operating rules.

European countries and other potential participants have received invitations, but controversies have already begun over the economic and political content of the proposal.
