The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, gave a strong message today during a meeting in Saranda, following the arrests of several police leaders and employees suspected of favoring illegal construction.
Hita stated that no one is above the law and that the State Police uniform will never be used as a shield for lawlessness.
Hita stressed that he is determined to remove from the police ranks any employee who collaborates with lawbreakers, regardless of their rank or function.
According to him, the arrest of officers at one of the most important police stations in the country is a serious event that undermines citizens' trust in the state and justice.
"When a police officer or law enforcement agency deviates from the law, not only is the institution damaged, but citizens' trust in the state and justice is violated. Precisely for this reason, our reaction must be immediate, strong and without any compromise ," declared the police chief.
He further emphasized that unauthorized construction damages urban development, public and private property, but also the tourist image of Saranda, while calling for close cooperation between the State Police, IMT, IKMT, and local government to prevent such cases.
Hita warned of zero tolerance towards lawlessness on the eve of the tourist season, underlining that the police will be on the ground to guarantee order, public safety and control of the territory.
At the end of his speech, he called on citizens to report any case of abuse or negligence by police officers, while guaranteeing that any violator will face justice in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office and the Police Supervision Agency.
