Naim Murseli and Liridona Ademaj

The four accused in the murder of Liridona Ademaj: Naim Murseli, Granit Plava, Kushtrim Kokalla and Tom Dodaj, through statements given to the Police and the Prosecution, have given their versions of how they met each other, the plan to commit the murder, the involvement and actions of each, up to the promise of payment.

Naim Murseli, as a witness, said that they were 'robbed' and that the deceased was now left in the car.

According to the indictment provided by "Oath for Justice", Naim Murseli, in his statement given to the Police on November 29, 2023 in the capacity of a witness, gave his version of how the incident occurred. He said that they had been robbed and that he and the children managed to get out of the car, while the now deceased Liridona remained in the car.

Murseli as a suspect: I did not give any idea and I did not take any action to carry out this murder

Meanwhile, in the statement given as a suspect on December 1, 2023, in the presence of his defense attorney, he emphasized that after 10 years of marriage, marital problems had begun, saying that Liridona was jealous, temperamental and controlling, and that there was psychological pressure from her, such as frequent phone calls and requests for photographic evidence of where he was and with whom.

Naimi reportedly stated that he was no longer happy, but that Liridona, according to him, did not accept the separation. He said that a problem that had occurred between them in March 2023, further complicated their relationship. After that, he said that the pressure increased and that, according to him, even influenced him to think about suicide.

According to him, in a conversation with his uncle's son (Kushtrim Kokalë), he told him that he would solve this case for him, and that initially they had thought about staging an accident, but that Kushtrim's friend (Granit Plava) had insisted that he carry out the crime with a gun in his own way.

"...I did not give any idea and I did not take any action to carry out this murder," the accused Murseli is quoted as saying.

On the critical day, he says he met Granit in Gjakova, his tire was damaged on the way, and when they stopped to fix it, the person who helped him with the tire asked Plava if he was interested in buying a gun, for which Naimi had given Granit 250 euros to buy it. He then said that he had set off towards Pristina with Granit, and after telling him to send him to Kralan, they continued their separate ways to Pristina, where according to him Plava had followed him in another car until he was near his house and then said "now I know what to do".

Afterwards, Naimi stated that they had continued to dinner with Liridona and the two children, saying that he did not notice that Plava had been at that restaurant, but that he had written to him and sent him a photo. Graniti had said that he left the bar, and when they finished dinner, Naimi says that they continued to go home, and near the house Graniti came out with a gun and a mask.

"... even though I was aware of his presence, I never truly believed that Granit would take action to murder. Shocked, I stopped, raised my hands and told my wife to give me everything she wants, and at one point I opened my door, then the children's door, telling my wife to leave the car, and when we were a few meters away, I heard a crack but didn't see what happened," Murseli is quoted as saying.

Further, it is said that she stated that she had sought help from nearby houses. She said that the owner of the market had notified the police and that he had asked her to stay there with the children until the police arrived.

Murseli says the motive for the murder was jealousy and high pressure

According to him, he went to the scene after the police arrived, but he was in a severe emotional state, shocked and afraid to tell the truth about the incident, knowing Plava's criminal past, and did not dare to reveal his identity. After the incident, he says that he was not seen or heard from Plava and that he did not give him any reward.

"At this moment, I feel happy that the perpetrator has been arrested and the case is moving towards clarification. I have sworn to tell only the truth and not hide anything, and I wish to cooperate with state bodies so that the case is fully clarified," Murseli is further quoted as saying.

He said he did not believe this would happen and that he was remorseful. He said the motive was jealousy and high pressure, causing him to lose his temper.

Meanwhile, he said that he had met Granit Plava through Kushtrim Kokala. He said that he had not known that the weapon he had bought with Granit would be used in the case and that he did not even know the person who sold him the weapon. Murseli stated that after the incident he had not contacted or met Plava, but he had met Kokala and he had asked him how the case had happened.

Further, it is said that Murseli stated that he had given Kokalla money from time to time, but not in connection with the crime. On the critical night, he said that he had stayed at the hotel, and the next day he had gone to Liridona's family to pick up the children. He said that together with the now deceased he had a business that is no longer active. Also, when asked if they had health or life insurance, he said that they had but that he did not know if it is still active.

Whereas, it is emphasized that in the statement given to the Prosecutor's Office on January 24, 2024 and February 1, 2024, he said that he gave the statements to the Police under pressure, that he was physically abused by the police and that he reported the case to the Police Inspectorate, but that he did not submit this complaint as evidence when requested by the Prosecutor's Office. It is also stated that his statements given to the Prosecutor's Office are not in accordance with the evidence collected and should not be trusted.

It is further stated that in the statement given to the Prosecutor's Office on July 30, 2024, Naim Murseli stated that he did not have any new information about the case. Regarding the life insurance policies in Sweden, he had said that he had signed a contract with a company for himself and Liridona for herself. For now, the deceased said that he did not know the amount for which he had signed the contract and did not know who the beneficiary of that policy was.

According to Mursel's statement, he said that in 2022, when Liridona signed that contract, their relationship was good. According to him, he had accepted a divorce when he wanted to, so that Liridona could file the papers for her sister, but by the time they had submitted the documents, her sister had already divorced.

After the Prosecution authorized an interview by the Police at the Correctional Service premises on October 18, 2024, he reportedly admitted to an attempted divorce in Sweden before the case he witnessed, with the excuse of enabling him to buy a house.

Granit Plava: Naim Murseli told me he would kill a Serbian businesswoman

Granit Plava, in his statement to the Police on December 1, 2023, stated that the day before the critical day he met with his fellow villager, Naim Murseli, where the latter told him that there was a case from which both of them could make money. He told him that his job would be to kill a Serbian businesswoman and that after the murder he would give her 30 thousand euros. He said that he had agreed to carry out the murder.

On the critical day, Plava said that Mursel went to his house in a car, telling him that he would carry out the murder with it, but that he refused, saying that he needed a bigger car. Together with Naim, he said that they went to Kralan and took the car from a person. Then, he said that Naim gave him the gun and told him to follow him.

After they parted ways and Naimi had told her what car he would be driving, Plava reportedly stated that when he arrived, he flashed his lights. He said they were in contact via WhatsApp the entire time and that he followed them to the restaurant where Naimi went with the now deceased and the children. When they wanted to leave, he said that Naimi wrote to him "go" and told him when to leave.

According to him, when they arrived near the scene, Naimi wrote to him, "You go there and lie in wait, while I'm delaying a bit until you get ready." He then said that at the scene, he got in front of the car, went to the passenger window, and told them to hand over their phones.

"I picked up the phones and I heard that girl saying mo mo and that's when I noticed she was Albanian and I only shot her once and I didn't know where I hit her," Plava is quoted as saying.

After this, Plava reportedly stated that he fled the scene, and that on the way he tried to contact Naim but he did not respond. According to the media, he said that the next day he learned that the victim was Murseli's wife, news that he says shocked him because according to him, if he had known that she was Albanian, he would not have killed her.

The accused Granit Plava also stated that he had been to the Police several times for cases of beatings during his time at school. He said that Naim Murseli had not previously asked him to do other work, and that he had known him for 10-15 years. Plava said that Murseli had made the murder plan and that his job was to follow him, ambush him, pretending it was a robbery, and kill the girl who had told him that she was Serbian and that he would give her 30 thousand euros the next day.

"I did this because I needed the money for my son's illness," Plava is quoted as saying.

As for why Naimi wanted to commit the murder, Plava is quoted as saying that he didn't tell him anything except that the victim had money. He said that he didn't take anything from the victim, but he took a bag that Naimi had left on the roof of the car, and that he didn't take anything from it and threw it away.

According to him, he did not know how many people were in the car and that he did not hear children screaming. He said that as far as he knows, no one else was aware of the incident.

Kushtrim Kokalë, Plava said that he has a childhood friend, and that he does not know Naim through him, but that they know each other because they are from the same village. He had met Kokalë the night before the murder, but he says that he did not know that he would commit the murder.

Now the accused Plava has stated that on the day the incident occurred, Naimi went to his house and gave him 100 or 120 euros to pay for the car and the diesel.

"I feel sorry for the case in question. If I had known that this was Albanian, I would never have done it, even though I really needed money for my son's illness. For this, Naimi took advantage of my economic situation...", Plava is quoted as saying.

Plava says he committed the murder due to poor economic conditions, pressure and health conditions

Meanwhile, in the statement given on December 14, 2023, it is said that he stated that two weeks before the incident, he met with Naim and Kushtri, where the latter told him that they would stage a car accident if he refused to do it. Through Kokala, he says that they arranged the meetings with Murseli.

A week before the murder, he said he met with Naim Murseli, who in the presence of the three promised him 30 thousand euros if he carried out the murder. He said he had given him 400 euros, and that he had also given Kushtrim Kokalla an amount. And they had agreed to carry out the crime.

On the critical day, Plava said that Naim bought the gun and 20 rounds of ammunition, said that he had given him instructions on how to act and that he would give him signals with the car lights when to act.

According to him, Murseli also sent him the location where he was to commit the murder. He said that when he committed the murder, he did not take their phones or anything else. He added that he had not communicated with Murseli anymore and that he committed the murder due to his poor economic situation, pressure and health condition.

The Dossier states that this statement was partially correct, but that the part where he says he did not know the children were in the car cannot be trusted because he himself admits that he was in the restaurant where Murseli, the victim, and the two children were. However, that in this way he attempted to reduce his responsibility for the murder committed in front of the two minors.

Whereas, on January 23, 2024, when he was invited to testify at the Prosecutor's Office, it is said that Plava exercised his right to remain silent.

Kushtrim Kokalla: Naim Murseli had begged me to kill Liridona for a year

According to the indictment that "Oath for Justice" has secured, Kokalla stated to the Police on December 1, 2024 that he has been a member of the Kosovo Security Force since 2019. He said that Naim Murseli is his uncle's and aunt's son, while Granit Plava is his fellow villager and that they have known each other since they were little.

Kokalla stated that a week ago he had been at Mursel's house and then they met with Granit Plava. That night, he said that Mursel had written to him and asked for Plava's number and that after 2-3 days they met where Mursel had given Kokalla 300 euros for the installment of the loan for which he says he entered for Mursel and that he had also given Plava 500 euros. Regarding the latter, he said that he had no idea why they were given to him.

According to Kokalla, on November 29, 2023, he had a conversation with the accused Murseli, and according to him, in that conversation, Murseli asked him to meet and they met at around 9:30, where he told him "this job must be done today", which according to Kokalla had to do with the murder of Liridona. He said that for about a year, the accused Murseli had begged him to carry out the murder.

"For almost a year, Naimi has been begging me to commit this murder. Then I told him that it is out of the question for me to do this job and don't ever tell me again," the accused Kokalla is said to have stated.

According to Kokalla, Murseli had told him that he would call Granit and meet with him, and according to him, there was no further contact after that, and it was only in the evening when a friend called him to ask if he had seen the news that he had found out about Liridona's murder.

According to the statement given by Kokalla, upon learning this news, he had taken his family and they had come to Pristina to the police station, and that upon completion of the police procedures, in order not to be left alone, he had gone to the hotel with Mursel.

Kokalla stated that upon entering the hotel room, the accused Murseli addressed him with the words "I finished this job."

Kokalla stated that he had considered reporting the case, but that he was shocked and afraid for his family by Naimi. He said that after the funeral, they saw the Police going to Plava's house, and that the accused Murseli had asked him if he had a weapon, but that Kokalla had told him that he had one in the safe and did not have it with him.

Kokalla further stated that Murseli offered him money for this case, but that he never accepted any money or anything after the case.

Kokalla was invited to the Prosecutor's Office on January 24, 2024, to give a statement, but exercised his right to remain silent.

Tom Dodaj: Naim Murseli bought the gun with 20 bullets for 280 euros

Tom Dodaj, in his statement given to the Police on December 9, 2023 and to the Prosecutor's Office on January 23, 2024, said that on the critical day, Mursel had come to his service station to fix his car tire. During the conversation, when the topic of weapons came up, he had told Mursel that he possessed a weapon, which he could sell to him, claiming that he had previously known that possessing a weapon was illegal and that he was aware that by doing so and by selling the weapon, he had committed a criminal offense.

Furthermore, Dodaj stated that he did not know Murseli and Plava before and that the accused Murseli himself had asked him to look at the weapon he had, so Dodaj stated that he went to the house and took the weapon.

Dodaj stated that Murseli and Plava had previously tested the gun at his house and that he had sold it with 20 cartridges for 280 euros, with Murseli, according to Dodaj, taking the cartridges and Plava taking the gun.

According to him, Murseli told him that he was buying the gun for Plava's father because he likes small pistols. He said that when they heard the news in the evening, they realized that the murder had been committed with the gun he had sold. He apologized to the victim's family, adding that he had not known that the murder would be committed with this gun and that he was ready to answer for the consequences.

Dodaj further stated that Murseli paid for the weapon and that the two defendants Murseli and Plava were involved in the conversation about purchasing the weapon, but that Murseli did more talking.

"Yes, Granit and Naim were also involved in the conversation about the weapon, but Naim participated more in the conversation and I understood that Naim was more interested than Granit," Dodaj is said to have stated.
