Tech company Meta , owner of the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp networks , has announced that it will lay off about five percent of the company's lowest-performing employees, and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg told workers in an internal memo that 2025 will be an "intense year."
According to the report for the last quarter, Meta employed around 72,000 people, so a five percent job cut would affect approximately 3,600 people.
Affected employees will be notified by February 10, Tech Crunch reports.
"I decided to increase the level of performance management and remove poor performers more quickly," Zuckerberg said in a memo.
The company previously eliminated 21,000 jobs in 2022 and 2023, or almost a quarter of its workforce, CNBC reports.
Meta then stated that the layoffs were necessary to improve efficiency as the company hired many people during the coronavirus pandemic.
