Former Socialist Party MP Jurgis Çyrbja was released from prison today, having been convicted on November 3 of last year for electoral corruption, supporting crime figures and leaking state secrets.

The Special Court sentenced him to three years, which due to the summary trial was converted to two years in prison.

Çyrbja was a Socialist Party MP for Durrës for two parliamentary terms.

He resigned from his mandate on October 10, 2024. The following day, the Special Prosecution Office charged him with abuse of office, for the period when he had headed the Durrës mortgage.

On October 20, he was arrested for another investigation, under suspicion of having exposed police actions, extracted data from TIMS and other information to help wanted persons avoid being caught.
