After continuous calls to raise awareness among citizens about cleaning and maintaining the city, the Mayor of Vlora, Brunilda Mersini, has concretely launched a series of on-the-ground commitments.
Currently, the cleaning of the canals surrounding the city has begun, which play an important role in water drainage and flood prevention.
During this process, it was found that many of the canals had become garbage dumps, where mattresses, furniture, and other large items were found.
According to Mersin, this waste blocks drainage channels and causes flooding in the city.
The Mayor has called on citizens for greater awareness and cooperation, emphasizing that canals should not be used as garbage dumps.
"The city belongs to everyone and we must keep it clean together," she said.
Mersin also announced that the Municipality has also taken over the management of the Cold Water Tunnel source.
She explained that, at the moment, the water cannot yet be considered drinkable until biological and chemical analyses are completed.
For this purpose, the relevant institutions have been contacted and it has been requested that the analyses be carried out as soon as possible, so that citizens can be informed with full transparency.
