A total of 1357 kg of chicken meat infected with salmonella bacteria was sold in the "KFC" chain of stores in Albania, endangering the lives of consumers.
This quantity sold could have been even greater if the "RASFF" portal of the European Union had not notified the AKU to immediately block and remove the meat with the dangerous bacteria.
For its part, this institution that is paid by citizens' taxes for food security becomes the "lawyer" of private companies.
In the announcement published by AKU, the alert coming from the EU is cited, but the pictures of the "KFC" chicken meat are missing, which would make it more clear to the consumer.
Ora News writes that it has asked this institution why the announcement is not accompanied by a picture of the product?!
AKU is trying to close this issue quietly by claiming that the "RASFF" system of the EU has not sent photos.
This ridiculous response is not at all serious for an authority like that of food safety, since the inspectors who blocked the amount of unsold meat certainly documented it with photos.
The non-publication of the photos alongside the announcement clearly shows that AKU is more concerned about the image of private entities than the health of citizens.
While it would be the opposite, transparency would bring even more credibility.
Every person who has consumed a product that has endangered their health has the right to know who is the entity that imported into our country the "KFC" chicken meat infected with salmonella.
We have addressed this question repeatedly to the AKU, which has not provided us with any information on the grounds that the subject is in court proceedings with the AKU and therefore the data of the importer cannot be provided.
Although the name of the subject will not be made public, the fact is that 1357 kg of chicken meat infected with salmonella bacteria was sold to citizens, while 177.12 kg were reportedly destroyed.
AKU has a legal obligation to inform the media and citizens about the disposal of the remaining amount of meat.
Ora News has asked this institution for the procedure for the disposal of "KFC" meat accompanied by photos.
AKU states that the destruction was done on 30.8.2024, but does not provide us with any photo or video to prove that this procedure was carried out.
Each disposal procedure is documented with photos and videos.
But has AKU documented with photos and videos the destruction of "KFC" chicken meat with salmonella?
If so, why is it avoiding the legal obligation and not making it available to the media and the public?
AKU is directly responsible for allowing the marketing of a product that endangered the lives of citizens, and instead of a public apology, it turns to arrogance by not assuring citizens that the remaining amount of salmonella-infected meat has been destroyed.
