DP MP Klevis Balliu, during his speech at the plenary session today, raised concerns about the conditions in detention where former President Ilir Meta is being held.
Balliu stated that he had visited the detention facilities before coming to the Assembly, informing me that he had met with Meta.
He stated that the cell Meta was in was small, about 2 by 2 meters, which, according to him, was the only room where the signal did not work.
"I was just before coming here at the detention center where I also saw former president Ilir Meta. I asked them: do you have a library here? They said yes. When I went to see it, there was a drawer with 15 books, an empty room with no chairs, no table.
"15 books was called the library. Then the conditions of Meta's cell, a 2 by 2 room. It was coincidentally the only room that didn't even have a signal. Some protesters who are in prison today are in miserable conditions. They're not even prisons. We've even had 18-year-olds who were put in prison for 2 hashish cigarettes," Balliu said.
