The opening of the state security files for the communist period from 1945 to 1991 will shed light on the history of Chameria for this period. The patriotic association "Çamëria" and the Authority for the Information of the State Security Files signed an agreement to open all the former state security files for the Chamber.

"Today's act of opening the Chamber's files after the approval of the resolution and the construction of the monumental cemetery of Kllogjeri, is an important step in missing transparency. For the relevant institutions of the Albanian state, it is very important that the involvement does not remain with the authority, but all of them, starting from the Academy of Sciences and up to the history books, must reveal the truth about Chameria and the Albanians of Chameria", said the president of PDIU Save Idrizi.

"Firstly these documents provide new and unbiased historical evidence on the events that took place during and after the Second World War, helping to clarify the facts and events. This is an important step towards the recognition and fair solution of the Cham issue, helping not only the history of Albania, public discourse, but also diplomatic efforts. Secondly, the opening of these files for Chameria Albanians is not only emotional, but also identity-based," said the head of the Authority for the Information of State Security Files, Gentiana Sulaj.

The files cover the entire communist period from 1945 to 1991, making available three funds in total of 105 files containing about 200,000 archival sheets. These archival documents branch of internal affairs Saranda, Berat, Lushnje, Elbasan, Tirana, Vlora and throughout Albania. These documents include fugitives, shot, massacred, documents on surveillance, persecution and up to heavy prison sentences and deportations of the entire community of Chameria Albanians.

The president of the Chameria Patriotic Association, Liljan Idrizaj, said that this agreement helps to recognize the files of prominent personalities of the Cham community in order to clarify the criminal activity of the former state security and all the machinery that was made available to persecute second. In this activity, there were numerous discussions on this important event that leads to the solution of the Cham issue, but also establishes new bridges of diplomatic communication with Albania and Greece./A2
