An Albanian died in the prison of Corfu. The event is thought to have happened a few days ago and the victim is a young man, 35 years old, identified by the initials LB from Kurbini.

Other details about the event were disclosed by journalist Shpëtim Zinxhiria, who told Euronews Albania that the event had not been reported.

"This event happened 4 days ago in the prison of Corfu. The 35-year-old Albanian was buried in Albania. The family members did not want to give more information. The last event was not reported in the local media. It has not been mentioned in the Greek media, only on one portal. However, conditions in Greek prisons have improved. But the Albanian institutions should be at the right level. In 2018, 24 Albanians died, from 2 per month, and the Albanian institutions remained silent, but this is not the job of the embassy," said the journalist.

While 27 deaths have been recorded in the 29 months in prisons in Greece, so far there is only silence from the Albanian authorities.

Even in the most recent case, when a young Albanian was severely raped by prison guards while being transferred from one prison to another, the case was not even commented on by the Albanian Embassy in Greece, or by the Foreign Ministry.
