One of the names proposed for the new President is that of archaeologist Neritan Ceka, who has been rumored as a possible candidate by the Democratic Party deputies. Regarding the proposal for his name, Neritan Ceka has stated that he has no aspirations for President and that he has left politics.
"I have left politics. I am at the Academy of Sciences with a colleague of mine with a political background, Skënder Gjinushi. I had no political ambitions," he told Abcnews.
Neritan Ceka further added that no illusions should be created about the figure of the president.
"We do not have an opposition that passes the presidency with 83 votes because they are not together. The president has no role today with the balance of power. The judiciary is being strengthened. "The president should not get involved in political issues, should not get involved in parliamentary issues", said Neritan Ceka.
The first round for proposing names for President of the Republic will be held on May 16. So far the parties have been hermetic and have not made any preliminary statement on which names can be put to the vote.
