Footage of Ervin Mata's arrest in Brazil emerges

The first images of Ervin Mata's arrest in Brazil have emerged, on Saturday during a police operation that took place in Ilhabela, on the coast of Sao Paulo state, by the Federal Police in collaboration with the local Military Police.

Mata was wanted in November 2023 by SPAK order as part of a structured criminal group suspected of international cocaine trafficking. According to the investigation, the group is also accused of money laundering and providing conditions for the commission of murders.

The operation was carried out within the framework of international cooperation between SPAK, EUROJUST, EUROPOL and law enforcement agencies of several countries in Europe, South America and beyond. The arrest was made possible after the exchange of information in real time between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Brasilia, within the framework of the international operation codenamed “The Wanted”.

According to the Police announcement, the 39-year-old was arrested in the town of Ilha Bela, where it turns out he was also using forged British identification documents.

The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime had assigned the security measure "prison arrest" in 2023, for the criminal offenses of drug trafficking within a structured criminal group, as well as participation in a criminal organization.

According to SPAK investigations, Mata is suspected of coordinating the group's activity to traffic around 240 kilograms of cocaine in September 2020. The investigations have also included cooperation with Belgian, French, Dutch, German, Brazilian and Colombian authorities, as well as verifications of previous criminal events in Albania.

Interpol Tirana announces that it continues to cooperate with Interpol Brasilia to finalize the procedure for his extradition to Albania.

The news of Ervin Mata's arrest has also been covered by foreign media, including CNN Brasil. In a statement to this media, the Military Police (PM) said that the Albanian businessman was located following intelligence information indicating that he had moved from the Baixada Santista region towards the North Coast. According to authorities, during the patrol, the suspect was found in a business and was escorted to the Federal Police Commissariat in São Sebastião.

During the operation, two mobile phones and documents belonging to the wanted person were seized.
