The State Police, in the announcement of Ervin Mata's arrest, has provided some details.

According to the official announcement, he used forged British documents to live in Brazil.

He is accused of trafficking 240 kg of cocaine, in addition to being involved in several other crimes.

Ervin Mata is considered one of the biggest drug traffickers and until a few years ago, no one dared to mention his name.

For the first time, his name was published after the gunfight with Rvis Martinaj in Bllok.

It was then said that the cause of the clash was his fiancée, Elvana Gjata.

Quarrel with Ervis Martinaj

Ervin Mata's name first came to public attention after the massacre that occurred in the former Bllok, on October 4, 2018. During the gunfight at the "Monopol" bar, Fabjol Gaxha, Ervis Martinaj's bodyguard (already missing since August 9, 2022), was killed, while Martinaj and Eljon Hato were injured.

Police stated at the time that the people involved in the incident had initially argued inside the bar and then clashed with firearms. Following this conflict, Ervin Mata surrendered to the police six months later, stating that he had left "out of fear for his life."

Initially, it was said that the fight had started after Martinaj had harassed the girl Mata was dating, singer Elvana Gjata. Later, investigations revealed that the conflict between them had to do with a cocaine shipment, for which Mata had not responded to Eldi Dizdari, one of the leaders of the "Bello Cartel", who is now hiding in Dubai.

Ervin Mata and Elvana Gjata were engaged in 2017, after two years of dating, in a simple and private ceremony. The singer had mentioned the relationship in several interviews, but without mentioning the name of her partner.

"You know when you have a good thing and you don't want it... you're afraid. I think God has been very good to me, he has brought me very good luck," she declared in an interview with Ermal Mamaqi.

On November 20, 2023, SPAK signed an arrest warrant for Ervin Mata as part of Operation “Metamorphosis”, which hit a large network of drug traffickers. During the intercepted conversations on the Sky ECC application, Mata turned out to have trafficked a quantity of 250 kg of cocaine from Brazil to Frankfurt Airport in Germany. In one of the conversations, Mata tells his associates that 240 kg of cocaine have been seized, and that it would be published in the newspaper the following day. These conversations later led to the arrest of businessman Pëllumb Gjoka and the head of the operation Oltion Bistri.

But it doesn't end there! From the conversations revealed in the Sky ECC application, the structured criminal drug group that carried out activities from Latin America to Europe was hit, where the state police offices were also part of it. It is about the former deputy director of the Tirana Police, Erzen Breçani and at that time the head of Crimes at Police Station number 6, Dedan Gjoni, who were accused of money laundering and supporting the perpetrator of the crime. They were arrested near the national stadium, while Mata was on the run. But in addition to family ties, Breçani and Mata also have in-laws' ties to each other because Breçani's son is married to Ervin Mata's sister. Elvana Gjata was also mentioned in the Sky ECC conversations, as Breçani's son and Mata talk about the transfer of 500 thousand euros from the singer's account. After this event, it is said that SPAK has launched a property investigation for the famous singer.
