The acting mayor of the municipality of Himara, Jorgo Goro, was arrested today by order of SPAK.

He is accused of "Abuse of duty" because it is suspected that during the time he was in charge of the Municipality, he gave permission for the construction of an object in violation of the law.

In addition to him, the anti-corruption court approved prison terms for the owner of the land, while three others were placed under house arrest.

The investigations against Mayor Goro started after a report filed from detention by his rival Fredi Beleri, who defeated him in the elections of May 14 last year.

Beleri was convicted for vote-buying and is known as an elected mayor of Himara, but because of his imprisonment, the office of mayor continued to be held by Jorgo Goro.

The investigation against Goro, that with his arrest, the municipality of Himara was left without a mayor, culminated in the fall, when strategic investor Artan Gaçi, the husband of Olta Xhaçka, was also summoned for questioning.

However, SPAK's investigation raised questions about the activity of Goro and other suspects who are estimated to have been implicated in forging documents in violation of the law.

But in addition to this lawsuit, SPAK has also referred to the official report of the Supreme State Audit which has identified some doubts regarding the violation of equality in tenders but also with certain investments in the city of Himara, during the time when Goro held the post and mandate the third term of the mayor of Himara.

The most important finding of the High State Control concerns the construction of a resort in this area and the procedures for how construction permits were granted in the coastal area of ​​Himara.
