Minister of Justice,  Toni Gogu, held his first press conference today 11 weeks after taking office.

Gogu presented the main priorities of the Ministry of Justice at an important moment for Albania's European integration process and for the current phase of justice reform.

Regarding the reception of prisoners who have their eyes on amnesty, which has been frozen, Gogu explains that the closest deadline for discussions is next week.

"It is an instrument of our penal policy that was designed to address several issues, first of all the strengthening of human rights and this has to do with the situation we have with the population in prisons. It will definitely happen. We have been very careful that in the entire process we have of advancing the country towards membership, we review the priorities according to importance. Amnesty is in parliament. Once we have received the assessment for the 'Fundamentals', we will start dealing with amnesty, with the attention it deserves", he said.
