Authorities have undertaken a large-scale operation at the Peqin Penitentiary Institution today.

According to the official announcement of the General Directorate of Prisons, the operation was conducted under the direction of the General Director of Prisons, Adriatik Kupi, and the Director of Prison Police, Paulin Rajta.

The surprise check was carried out by operational and special forces of the Prison Police, supported by the security structures of several prisons nationwide, including Fier, Vlora, Korça, Berat, Rrogozhina, Elbasan, "Jordan Misja", Shkodra, Burreli, Fushë-Kruja and Durrës.

Vox News learns that advanced technological tools such as special detectors, monitoring drones, anti-drug dogs and scanners were used in this operation, with the aim of identifying any prohibited items within the institution's premises.

The inspection included in detail all areas of the prison, starting from the residential sectors and meeting buildings, to the work areas, library, gym, observation rooms, the special regime "41-bis", the ventilation facilities, as well as the surrounding areas and the soft security belt.

In one case, a suspected quantity of narcotics was also discovered, for which the relevant legal procedures were followed.

As part of this action, the authorities have also transferred two life-sentenced prisoners, who were considered to pose a high risk to security in the institution.
