Luka Modric has ended his season with Milan prematurely after a serious injury suffered during the match against Juventus.

Medical examinations confirmed a fracture in the left cheekbone, caused by a hard collision with Manuel Locatelli.

The Croatian midfielder is expected to undergo surgery to repair the injury. Croatian media reports that the 40-year-old will miss the final four weeks of the Italian championship, leaving Allegri's team without a leader in midfield.

However, his participation in the World Cup does not appear to be in jeopardy. In order to play for the Croatian national team in the summer tournament, Modric will have to use a special protective face mask.
