Zhang's era at Inter has ended after 8 years. The failure to compensate the debt taken in 2021 has caused the Chinese family to lose the black coal without any benefits, which will now be under the administration of Oaktree Capital.
The US-based fund has officially taken over the management of the Italian champions. Inter's financial problems have been numerous in this period, especially from the Covid-19 pandemic, a situation that has caused a major liquidity crisis from the Suning fund.
Therefore, in the spring of 2021, the owners of Inter received a three-year loan of 275 million Euros from the American company, which would cover the operating expenses of the club. Together with interest, this figure totals around 400 million Euros, a sum which has also brought about the change of ownership of the Champions of Italy, set as collateral for obtaining the debt.
During the 8 years under the leadership of the Chinese owners, Inter has won 7 trophies, two championship titles, while also reaching the finals of the Champions League and the Europa League. For a long time, the Zhang family was looking for a buyer, asking about 1.2 billion euros for the club's shares, but this figure was not offered by anyone.
