Beer prices vary widely across European capitals, with the highest costs found in the Nordic region, the United Kingdom and France. The ranking changes significantly when considering the price level for alcoholic beverages calculated using purchasing power parity.

It's time for the European Championship 2024. Football fans are gearing up for the excitement of the matches, and for many, that means enjoying a beer while watching their favorite teams compete.

However, the cost of this experience will vary significantly depending on where fans are located or where they travel. The latest data reveals huge differences in domestic beer prices and the general level of alcohol prices across Europe, highlighting the different costs fans can expect.

According to Numbeo, domestic beer (0.5 liter) prices in restaurants or bars range from €2 in Sofia to €8 in Copenhagen among EU capitals.

The Nordic countries have the highest beer prices

Including the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the United Kingdom and EU candidate countries, Reykjavik in Iceland tops the list at €10 per beer, followed by Oslo at €9.6.

Copenhagen and Helsinki come next, with an average price of 8 euros per beer.

You have to pay over €7 for a beer in London (€7.7) and Paris (€7). In Bern, Switzerland, it costs 6.7 euros.

Although three cities rank above Stockholm (€6.7), the Nordic countries generally have the highest beer prices in Europe.

This means that fans in these cities will have to spend more on their matchday drinks compared to other countries.

In contrast, cities such as Kyiv, Minsk and Chisinau offer significantly cheaper options. Kyiv has the lowest price at 1.1 euros per beer, followed by Minsk at 1.2 euros and Chisinau at 1.3 euros.

Beer prices are also relatively lower in Madrid (€3.5) and Lisbon (€).

According to Numbeo, a domestic beer in Tirana will cost 2.5 euros, in Podgorica 2.2 euros, while in Skopje 1.9 euros.

These are all nominal prices and do not reflect purchasing power standards (PPS). This significant price disparity highlights how beer prices can reflect broader economic conditions and local market factors.

Albania is in 14th place, with 125.3% of the EU average, Montenegro with 125%, Serbia with 114.5. while Kosovo and North Macedonia are below the EU average, which means that alcohol prices are relatively low, with 98.7% and 84.4%, respectively./ Euronews
