Prime Minister Edi Rama has come out openly in support of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the presidential elections that will be held on May 14 in Turkey, on the same day as the local ones in Albania.
Through a video message distributed by the press office of the Prime Minister's Office and the Turkish agency "Anadolu", Rama expresses consideration for Erdogan's vision and work for the transformation of Turkey into a great power.
Rama considers Erdogan as a friend of difficult days, mentioning the aid for Albania, but also considers him as a political leader who keeps his word.
The head of the Albanian government emphasizes that Turkey is facing an election of great importance, according to him, not only for the Turkish nation and people, but also for the Balkans and Europe. Rama says that even Turkey on May 14, decides between the difficulty of going forward and turning back, which according to him is a very easy path
"Turkey is facing an election of great importance, not only for the Turkish nation and people, but also for the Balkans and Europe. It is undoubtedly the duty of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey to choose the leader and government they want. No one can and knows how to do this better than them. But in respect of each and every one of them, I want to express the highest consideration for President Erdogan, whose vision, courage, will and hard work turned Turkey into an example of a fantastic transformation in the eyes of the whole world. .
The exemplary strengthening of Turkey and the creation of a new consciousness, in the strength of the Turkish nation and state, did not only bring many good things for Turkey and its people, but also created great difficulties and strong opposition, which culminated in the questioning of the integrity of Turkey's legitimate institutions, and even of President Erdogan's life itself.
I know that President Erdogan has strong critics, just as he has passionate supporters, and surely both sides have their legitimate reasons, for which Turkey is having a heated confrontation today. Yes, I just want to tell you all that in such difficult times, not only for Turkey, but for the whole world and especially Europe, the experience and character of the President of the Republic of Turkey - his role in easing the great burden of the conflict in Ukraine over the grain supply routes of many countries endangered by the weight of that conflict or the weight of his judgment in dealing with the threatening hotbeds of terrorism - are too precious an asset not to be taken into account by all of them that next Sunday they will decide on the direction that Turkey will take.
Turkey holds presidential elections on May 14, with Recep Tayyip Erdogan running for a third term as president. While the strongest opponent in front of him is the head of the opposition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
Erdogan is facing his toughest election in 20 years amid an economic crisis and the aftermath of February's devastating earthquakes in eastern Turkey. He was in the southern city of Mersin on Saturday where he described the election as an "election of survival against terrorists", citing links between Kilicdaroglu and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The opposition, which denies the accusations, called for calming the situation.
