The incident in the Assembly

Women MPs of the Socialist Party have reacted to the physical assault that Xhelal Mziu, a DP MP, made today against the socialist Milva Ekonomi in the premises of the Assembly. Socialist MPs condemn the violence, describing it as an attack on their colleague.

The reaction of SP women deputies:

The event that happened today in the Presidency of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, from the recorded footage that clearly shows when the deputy Xhelal Mziu forcefully pushes our colleague Milva Ekonomi, is an ugly and reprehensible event.

This act of violence is an attack not only on a female colleague, but also on the principles that should guide our work. When this unacceptable act takes place in the premises of the Assembly against a female MP, it is even more serious as it damages the dignity and rights of all women and girls who exercise public functions and those who contribute to political life, and above all it violates moral standards and ethics of elected representatives.

Ky akt dhune cënon njëkohësisht edhe institucionin e Kuvendit, si një institucion ku duhet të tregohet me të gjitha format fryma e tolerancës, e respektit, e etikës ndaj kujtdo, e veçanërisht ndaj grave deputete. Kuvendi është vendi ku qytetarët dhe e gjithë shoqëria presin të shohin nga ne modelin e parë të respektit, tolerancës, komunikimit civil dhe që luftojmë jo me forcën e muskujve por me forcën e argumentit.

Si deputete të këtij Kuvendi kemi detyrimin të respektojmë ligjet dhe standartet që i kemi miratuar bashkarisht, të parashikuara në rezolutat e Kuvendit, si dhe të gjitha detyrimet ndërkombëtare të bëra pjesë e legjislacionit tonë, përfshirë Konventën e Stambollit, Rezolutat e Asamblesë Parlamentare të Këshillit të Europës, për përgjegjësinë tonë në luftën kundër dhunës ndaj grave, gjuhës së urrejtjes dhe intolerancës.

Ne, gratë deputete të Partisë Socialiste, anëtare të Aleancës së grave deputete të Kuvendit të Shqipërisë, dënojmë këtë akt të rëndë dhune, pasi akti i sotëm i dhunës ndaj një gruaje në politikë nuk është vetëm një sulm ndaj një kolegeje, por një sulm ndaj të gjitha grave që kontribuojnë dhe luftojnë për një shoqëri më të drejtë që respekton gratë dhe të drejtat e tyre.'
