Deputies of the Socialist Party approved today in the Laws Commission the government's draft law on the legalization of cannabis, while members of the opposition were not present.
The draft passed with the majority of votes of the socialists, however the deputies Pandeli Majko and Fatmir Xhafaj have decided to abstain.
The draft was voted urgently during the time when strong debates were taking place in the parliament about the arrest of Arben Ahmetaj. This was the moment when the head of the Laws Commission, Klotilda Bushka, called the meeting to vote on the draft law. The meeting lasted only a few minutes and there were no discussions.
The legalization of cannabis for medical use received "ok" from the Council of Ministers after a survey that the Rama government itself carried out, where citizens were asked if they were for or against. According to the results of this survey, over 50% of respondents supported this initiative.
