Veliaj on Fatos Nano: A tolerant and liberal leader, the value he showed towards
Fatos Nano

Erion Veliaj has reacted to the death of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano. The mayor says that with his civic and deeply European vision, Nano believed that the left should be about openness, debate and progress, not just dogma.

"Today we remember with respect a tolerant and liberal leader, who knew how to show these qualities with me, years ago, in the days of activist rebellion ," Veliaj emphasizes in his reaction.

"I received with sadness the news of the passing of Fatos Nano, the leader who shaped the Socialist Party and modern Albanian politics.

With his civic and deeply European vision, he believed that the left should be about openness, debate, and progress, not just dogma.

Today we remember with respect a tolerant and liberal leader, who knew how to demonstrate these qualities with me, years ago, in the days of activist rebellion.

Democracy is not measured by how much we talk, but by how civilly we debate and how well we know how to listen to each other. Because freedom is not only the right to speak, but also the responsibility to understand.

This was the spirit that Fatos Nano gave to the Albanian left and for which we should be grateful.

"Rest in peace ," Veliaj writes.
