Trump suspends international aid, US Embassy in Tirana reacts

The US Embassy in Tirana has reacted to President Donald Trump's decision to suspend US aid worldwide, except for Israel and Egypt.

Asked about this development, the US Embassy in Tirana responded by referring to the statement issued by the US Department of State which also explains the reasons for Trump's decision.

In Albania, over 30 governmental and non-governmental institutions are affected by the suspension of US funds.

The reaction of the US Embassy in Tirana:

Thank you for your question. We refer you to the press statement of State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce on the 26th. Below you will find the Albanian version of the statement.

In accordance with President Trump’s Executive Order Reassessing and Reorganizing U.S. International Assistance, Secretary Rubio has suspended all U.S. international assistance funded by or through the Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for review. He is initiating a review of all international assistance programs to ensure they are effective and consistent with U.S. foreign policy under the America First agenda.

President Trump made it clear that the United States will no longer blindly give away money that does nothing for the American people. Reviewing and reorganizing international assistance on behalf of hard-working taxpayers is not just the right thing to do, it is a moral imperative. The Secretary is proud to protect America’s investments with a deliberate and careful review of how we spend international assistance dollars abroad.

The mandate of the American people was clear—we must refocus on America’s national interests. The Department and USAID take their role as stewards of taxpayer dollars very seriously. The implementation of this Executive Order and the Secretary’s leadership further that mission. As Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said, “Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, and every policy we pursue must be justified by answering three simple questions: Does it make America safer? Does it make America stronger? Does it make America more prosperous?”
