The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has declared that the tender for Porto Romano is the biggest theft committed by the government.
At a press conference today, Berisha vowed that that project will never be realized.
'The third issue that I want to bring to your attention. The government is using the last days of the year to cover up, in a way, the biggest theft of all time, which is the theft in the port of Durres. After canceling the first tender for bargaining reasons, it is announcing these days the 400 million euro tender for the first phase of the port in Porto Romano. Of course, the winner has been determined, but I am here today to call on international companies not to become collaborators in the biggest crime that Albanians have known in the economic field, because the DP government will absolutely not recognize any tender signed from today until May 15 of next year.
Albanian law categorically prohibits procurement 4 months before elections. But besides this, Porto Romano is the biggest theft in the history of this nation, as it punishes every Albanian, punishes Albanian taxpayers with 1.3 billion euros and I pledge that that project will never happen, but 1.3 billion euros will be transferred to Albanian salaries and pensions.
The Port of Durres, a thousand-year-old port, will function, will be improved, will be deepened according to all existing projects for this port, and Albanians will never build a port of their own with their taxes, so that Edi Rama can build his own paradise with his Arab, Alalabar, and the guys from Dubai in Durres at the expense of Albanian citizens,' he said.
