Italian television: The two European prime ministers who risk power, after the

"From Spain to Albania, two European leaders face investigations, protests and growing domestic discontent."

Thus begins the chronicle of the Italian television channel "TG LA7", which analyzes the resignation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as the declining popularity of other left-wing leaders in Europe, referring to Pedro Sanchez in Spain and Edi Rama in Albania.

The author, journalist Paolo Stella, says that Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez is among the European leaders who yesterday expressed closeness to Keir Starmer, as according to him, they have many things in common; both are left-wing and are not particularly popular in their countries of origin.

Scandals and corruption in the Socialist Party

Sanchez is dogged by corruption scandals involving his Socialist Party, as well as his wife Begogna, who has been taken to court and had her passport confiscated.

And today (June 22, date of publication) the Supreme Court sentenced former Transport Minister José Luis Abalos, Sanchez's former right-hand man, to 24 years and three months in prison. The charges related to bribery in the purchase of masks during the 2020 pandemic.

Magistrates also handed down a sentence of 19 years and eight months for former ministerial advisor Koldo Garcia. Four and a half years for the self-proclaimed Victor De Aldama.

The known charges are serious: organized crime, corruption, embezzlement and abuse of influence. Moreover, in their reasoning for the sentence, the judges speak of the destabilizing potential of corruption, which shakes the democratic structure of the state and undermines the legitimacy of institutions.

The government distances itself

Sánchez's government immediately distanced itself: "We condemn and condemn any behavior that contradicts transparency, merit and integrity," the Moncloa statement said. For now, all parties in the governing coalition - a complex structure considered the prime minister's masterpiece - are not withdrawing their support, but are calling on the Socialists to improve their behavior. Meanwhile, polls favor the Popular Party.

The situation in Albania

But Sanchez is not the only one in trouble. In Albania, tens of thousands of people have been taking to the streets for weeks. This is the so-called Flamingo Revolution, calling for the resignation of Edi Rama, the long-serving prime minister who has been engaged in negotiations for membership in the European Union in recent months.

But what is really being accused is the entire system of the country, which continues to sell the perfection of Albanian beauties to foreign billionaires.

Ivanka Trump's resort

The latest spark: the luxury resort and other projects that Trump's daughter, Ivanka, and his son-in-law, Kushner, with international mediation, have decided to build near the Vjosa-Narte lagoon, an ecological oasis and refuge for flamingos, and on the island of Sazan, near Vlora, another natural paradise that would be taken away from ordinary people, who are now fed up with corrupt oligarchs.

However, Rama refuses to give in. "Investments are vital if Albania wants to become the most attractive luxury destination in the Mediterranean," insists the prime minister, who has no intention of opening a dialogue.
