Albanians in 'war' zones, Minister Ferit Hoxha: There are also in
Ferit Hoxha

Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha spoke this Friday in the parliamentary committee regarding the situation in the Middle East and the measures that have been taken for Albanians who are in the region in these times of war.

He stated that the Ministry, which now has a special headquarters, has personally contacted 2,512 citizens.

" One by one, name by name, " he emphasized, adding that 543 Albanians have temporary residence permits and 2,962 live and work in the region.

He announced that 138 people were interested in leaving there.

"We will try to organize their transport from one country to another. With many citizens who were in Israel at that moment, to take them to an airport that was opened specifically in Egypt. 45 citizens have left individually, with the assistance of other countries. It is a permanent practice, when there have been free places. 17 citizens have returned in this form", said Hoxha.

"Our representations have actively contacted Albanian citizens registered in the affected areas, organized the voluntary registration process, provided ongoing instructions for leaving the risk areas and coordinated with local authorities and international partners for evacuation options. Through this coordination, hundreds of Albanian citizens have been assisted and instructed to leave the conflict area, while some of them have left individually or through safe transport channels. In parallel, the MEPJ and diplomatic representations have cooperated with partner countries and neighboring states to enable the inclusion of Albanian citizens in evacuation operations organized by these countries, thus providing safe alternatives for their departure from the region", the minister underlined.

Announcing that there are Albanian citizens in Iran, a country with which we do not maintain diplomatic relations, he said that it took hard work to provide assistance.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the International Civil Emergency Center to respond to any situation. Our representations are registering residents..."

According to the minister, almost all of those who were travelers to the region have left.

"We have discouraged travel to these areas, there were those who had booked tickets, had paid the money to travel to Egypt, we have been very sensitive in discouraging them."

Despite the fact that Albania is a candidate country, he underlined the continuous contact with the EU Emergency Center.

"With the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States of course... We have followed very carefully the communications they have made, being interested, involved. We have a clear position, we support collective security, but we have asked Iran, not today or yesterday, but we have been among the vanguard countries in every meeting on Iran," he said about coordination with international partners.

Hoxha stated that the Iranian regime has never stopped attacking Albania.

"As everyone knows, there is no 100% security in technology! The fact that they managed to compromise the technological infrastructure of the Parliament means that we must be very alert. We have raised the issue in NATO, actively, with closed discussions there that I cannot give details. We are not alone, we have all NATO partners with us, we feel safe!", declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
