Former ambassadors and senior national security and diplomatic officials have sent an open letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the mass firings that were reported the day before at the State Department.
In the letter obtained by Politiko.al, former ambassadors and officials oppose Rubio's decision, calling the firing of 1,300 employees reckless.
The letter states that Secretary Rubio's staff reductions represent a risk to America's future because by dismantling the very institutions and expertise that have served as the foundation of American global leadership, the administration, they say, weakens the nation's ability to protect and advance interests abroad.
The former officials are calling for an immediate reconsideration of policies they say are flawed, which would cause irreparable damage to America's diplomatic capacity and global standing.
Meanwhile, the letter notes that among the signatories opposing Rubio's decision is the former US ambassador to Albania, Aleksandër Arvizu.

The news of the dismissal of around 1,300 employees from the State Department was reported by the media a day ago. It is reported that the dismissals will affect 1,107 civil service officials and 246 foreign service officials.
This decision by Rubio was followed by a series of criticisms and protests from employees. Meanwhile, among the other people present in front of the DASH premises, former US ambassador to Albania Yuri Kim was also seen. / Politiko.al
