EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato considered the meeting held today with the co-chairs of the Special Commission for Territorial and Administrative Reform, Arbjan Mazniku and Luciano Boçi, as constructive.

In a reaction on social media, Gonzato emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive and fully transparent reform, as well as achieving a broad consensus.

“Constructive meeting today with the co-chairs Arbjan Mazniku and Luciano Boçi of the Special Committee for Territorial and Administrative Reform in the Albanian Parliament. The EU Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, stressed the importance of a comprehensive and fully transparent reform, built on accurate data and broad consensus. The speed of reforms cannot come at the expense of quality and increased efficiency cannot come at the expense of local democracy. At the same time, it is important that the functions are accompanied by sufficient funding, so that local authorities have real autonomy in decision-making, supported by the necessary capacities. It remains essential that the reform brings better services to citizens and is in line with European standards ”, the reaction states.
