At the start of the electoral campaign, Socialist leader Edi Rama gave an exclusive interview to Top Channel, answering questions from Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu about how this electoral campaign was conceived.

Regarding the campaign, he said that the opponents are behind the SP, while adding that he and his party have their own paths and objectives. For Rama, the battle is to obtain a stronger mandate than the one he has.

Commenting on his political opponents, Rama called Sali Berisha a man in trouble, while ironically saying that Lulzim Basha 'is a phenomenon', but he does not believe that the latter can receive a mandate in the new Parliament.

Edi Rama described Sali Berisha's campaign advisor Chris LaCivita as just another tourist in Tirana.

When asked whether the SP will achieve the objective of obtaining 80 mandates, a number of socialists said that the set objectives are supported both by desire and by a scientific reading of electoral reality.

Asked about Veliaj's arrest before the campaign, and whether this had an impact in Tirana, the SP leader said he did not want to comment, as according to him the focus is on May 11th.

How do you foresee this electoral campaign, in terms of organization and facing opponents?

Rama : We will conduct our campaign, we have our own paths and objectives, the opponents are behind, we are ahead. Our battle is for as many hearts and minds of Albanians as possible and to obtain a stronger mandate than the one we have in order to continue intensively the talks for negotiations and Albania's membership in the EU within this decade.

Is 2030 achievable, where you often repeat that Europe is unpredictable?

Rama: We are in conditions where Europe is open and committed like never before to include us in its fold, and it is the EU that has negotiated the negotiation calendar with us, and this comes as a result of the fact that it is not only us who want to enter the EU, but also the EU that wants to expand for its own geopolitical goals of a larger, broader, stronger EU.

You have labeled Berisha as a fool since the start of the campaign, why didn't you mention the non-grata from the US and Britain and why did you choose Basha to have a dialogue at a distance with your style?

Edi Rama: I have not labeled it, I have ascertained, what is left of the DP from the time when the DP in '92 was at the right time and place to gain confidence, is a swamp where the remains of Albanian political history have been collected and where it is known what the impetus and objective of all that collection is, which is in the function of a great scoundrel, the owl. Luli is a separate phenomenon of this campaign and you know that every campaign has its own very serious and humorous elements, because politics cannot be just a fight with frowning eyebrows where people have to laugh.

Will Basha win a mandate?

Edi Rama: I don't think he has the strength to do such a thing because the way he has set up the campaign doesn't leave much hope.

The SP's secret weapon against LaCivita?

Edi Rama: Who is this? Please, let's not fall into this ridiculous trap of people who have their own jobs, for him he is a strategist, for me he is just another tourist in Tirana.

How achievable is the Socialist Party's objective of winning 80 seats in these elections?

Edi Rama: I don't know who told you this objective. Our objectives are objectives that are related both to desire and to the scientific reading of electoral reality. You know very well, we conduct continuous surveys. We have a very consolidated instrument of internal surveys that we conduct every month for the reasons that we have, to read and understand people as best as possible. On the other hand, we have an increasingly sophisticated machinery of the SP in the electoral aspect, which collects data on the ground and above all these, we also build objectives that are not simply desires, but are based on the reality of the facts and I believe that in the Kuçi point I will write what the result will be this time too and I believe that it will come out.

It is a fact that Erion Veliaj was an electoral machine in Tirana. How much did his arrest affect the Tirana electoral campaign?

Edi Rama: I will not make any comment on this. Now we are all focused on May 11th and every energy, every strength, every living thing is only for May 11th.

How worrying is the inclusion of new parties in this electoral race for the SP's final result?

Edi Rama: We have no concerns about this. The new parties, which in fact, in my view, from what I have seen and heard so far, are only young in the age of their party leaders, because their approach, language, and way of interacting are very old and remind you of the "swamp" in one or two words, one or two gestures, one or two screams. But on the other hand, they are welcome on the battlefield. I cannot wish them success, but I certainly have no problem with them.

Who do you believe will be the star of the socialist team at the end of these elections? Because you have often mentioned it, you have built a team…

Edi Rama: The star of this campaign is the yellow star of Albania, which we definitely want to install in the blue sky of the European Union.
