Athens intensifies efforts for the release from detention of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

The mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakojanis, arrives this Monday in Himara to join the rally organized by "Omonia" for the release, swearing in and assumption of office of the mayor from Beleri.

The rally will be held at 18:00 at the Central Pedestrian Street of Himara and comes within the framework of the expiration of the three-month period provided by the electoral law for the oath of Beleri.

Passing the deadline will enable the Central Election Commission to proceed with the repeat of the elections.

Omonia, through an announcement on the Facebook social network, writes: "It is our great honor and joy that the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakojanis, will participate in this effort with his presence, contributing practically as a person of To myself. The government, for respecting democratic institutions. We also want to thank all the municipalities for their support and practical support. They fill us with strength and optimism. We will never forget it."

On Friday, Beleri was visited in the detention facilities by the Greek MP of the New Democracy party, Angelos Syrigos. The latter was warned that relations between Albania and Greece could be broken if Beleri is not sworn in as mayor.

Beler was arrested on May 12, while the investigation against him had started on May 9 after the referral of the case by the Vlora police, and was supported by video footage and wiretaps after an undercover police agent intercepted the moment when Beler's associates gave money to vote.

And while today in Himare there is a protest for Beler's release, his term to be sworn in as mayor is also ending. The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, in an earlier statement said that the deadline to take the oath is three months, while adding that as long as there is no final decision, Beleri can take the mayor's mandate.
