The Ambassador of Great Britain in Tirana, Alastair King Smith, has stated that throughout the year 2023 there will be other "non-women" announcements for Albanian politicians and businessmen, and this will put an end to impunity.
He also spoke about the local elections on May 14, saying that the mayoral candidates should be away from corruption. Among other things, Smith spoke about illegal immigration, saying that the British government will take action against traffickers.
"During this year there will be further actions. During the year 2023, Albanian politicians and businessmen will be sanctioned. There will be other non-women to end impunity. We will take action against traffickers. We will continue to invest in education and universities.
Candidates in local elections should be away from corruption and crime. Tomorrow we will have the visit of the Special Envoy for BP to Tirana. Finally, I want to talk about immigration. We are concerned because many young people are leaving Albania illegally. Our message is don't go that way there, the truth is that it is not as shown by the traffickers", stated Smith.
The ambassador spoke again about Albanian immigrants, calling on them not to risk entering Britain illegally, while he said that Albania is a safe place for them.
"We are very concerned that many young people are leaving Albania and that they are deciding to leave illegally. Our message to young people is: Don't go this way! It's sad how we see traffickers showing how easy it is the trip, how beautiful life is there. But the truth is that it is not as shown by the traffickers. People will only be able to immigrate legally and those who immigrate illegally will be returned." he declared.
